A significant investment in innovation over many years has resulted in the implementation of this biotechnological process in the meat industry. Bioco's owners are confident of this process, and support from Innovation Norway has been vital to the success of implementation.
About Bioco
Bioco is a biotechnology and biorefinery company located at Hærland, Norway. The company is a result of considerable investments in the development of a more sustainable agriculture. Bioco has implemented continuous enzymatic hydrolysis for poultry in their biorefinery plant.
Hydrolysis is, from a chemical perspective, a process where a molecule takes up water, and the result is that chemical bonds break and smaller molecules are formed. Bioco uses nature's own tools, enzymes, for this process: here enzymes "cut" proteins into smaller proteins and peptides (very short proteins) with hydrolysis, if given the right conditions (time, temperature).
Using this biochemical process, Bioco will contribute to increased value creation and resource utilization for chicken and turkey raw materials.
The process line at Bioco is for the most part automated, and can be controlled by a single operator. Today there are 7 people that keep the process at Bioco going and produce quality poultry proteins, peptides and oils.
